Nooroo is situated on Church Lane at Mount Wilson in the NSW Blue Mountains and is one of Australia's most beautiful high altitude gardens. The aboriginal word Nooroo, meaning 'Shady Place' was chosen ny William Cox who built Nooroo in 1880 and planted many of the magnificent maples,Oaks and other trees we see there today.
Nooroo has become famous for its wonderfully colourful spring displays of wisteria ,camellias rhododendrons, azaleas, daffodils ,and its plethora of cold tolerant trees which delight the eye in Autumn. A visit to Nooroo in both spring and autumn is highly recommended.
In 1917 the Valder family purchased Nooroo and were largely responsible for the 2 hectare garden design we see at Nooroo today. The Valders were the owners of Nooroo until 1987. Peter Valder became one of the world's formost experts on Wisteria and the photos in his much acclaimed book on Wisterias were all taken in Nooroo.
Nooroo is open by appointment on weekends in Spring and Autumn for a small admission charge.
