Meeting 9th Aug 2017 with Max & June and Terry Wright and Peter and Sue Langdown at 2 Eden Close Tuncurry

Meeting 9th Aug 2017 with Max & June and Terry Wright and Peter and Sue Langdown at 2 Eden Close Tuncurry

In early August 2017 I was contacted by Peter Langdown re an image he had seen that I had posted on my Black Diamond Images Flickr site.
The image was taken by Max Wright of a some friends near Hiroshima in April 1946. Peter had recognised his father Robert Harold Langdown in the image and wondered if he could take a copy. He was very surprised when I told him that at almost 95 Max was still very much alive and living in Tuncurry with his wife June 89. We arranged a meeting and on 9th August we all drove in to meet Max and June. Peter recorded some of the interviews we had with Max and I got a few videos where Max related some of his memories. He remembered Robert Harold Langdown well as both Max and Robert worked together as Nurse Orderlies for the Australian Army and were involved in repatriating Australian and NZ POW's back to Australia on the Medical Ship Manunda.
The sad but amazing fact was that Robert had only died a week or so before the meeting and did so unaware that Max was living in Tuncurry. Robert had lived his entire life in Moorland then Taree and no doubt was in the area when Max was living in Taree.
Peter handed us a gift in appreciation - a stack of receipts, a pair of glasses and a tea cup all found at Edwin Wright's old house at Avalon some years ago.
Its my intention to scan the receipts and photograph the other two items then pass them on to the Great Lakes Museum.
