Windyridge is undoubtedly a must see garden for any visitor to the Blue Mountains, just west of Sydney.
Designed by Gordon Sykes the garden will, in Syke's own words,"intoxicate the senses".
Situated at Queens Avenue,Mt Wilson the garden is owned by Wai and Roger Davidson after a long history dating back to 1877 when the property was part of the Yengo Estate of Jesse Gregson.
Swiss migrants,Fred and Hanny Huber purchased the property from Gregson's daughter in 1940 and started planting colourful cold climate shrubs and trees. Many of the Azaleas and Rhododendrons were purchased from Wai Davidson who together with husband Roger, finally purchased Windyridge in 1995.
The Davidsons immediately commissioned Gordon Sykes to design, and along with Wai Davidson's expertise, build an exemplary garden.
In February 1997 5 semi trailer loads of plants arrived to be integrated into the garden and in August 1998 3,000 Kurume Azaleas were planted on the top side of the drive.
Windyridge is always being improved as colourful plants are regularly added to this masterpiece garden.
I sincerely hope the images in my two galleries Reflections - Windyridge
successfully portray the tranquility and sheer beauty of this magnificent garden.OFFICIAL WINDYRIDGE WEB SITE
