Milton Park Lodge is 6 minutes East of the NSW Southern Highlands town of Bowral,a town famous for its Autumn and Spring gardens.
Milton Park Lodge is a hotel and conference centre these days after its conversion from the private home of Anthony Hordern of retailing fame.The Horderns purchased Milton Park in 1910 and Mary Hordern,Anthony's wife designed and created a world renowned 10 acre landscaped English style garden around the house over the years until the property passed from the family.Since then a succession of owners have made many improvements to the house and grounds but the gardens have continued to delight visitors from all over the world.
The garden is only open for a limited 2 weeks in Spring (October)each year so visitors need to check the opening dates on the Milton Park website.
The opening usually co-incides with the Southern Highlands open garden extravaganza -Tulip Time; where a tantalizing and inspiring range of magnificent gardens are open to the public at a small cost,many as part of the Australian Open Garden Scheme.
The garden is regarded as one of Australia's best gardens and in 1983 it was ranked 8th in the world.
The expansive gardens feature some very interesting design features, and exhibit Australia's oldest and largest Variegated Tulip Tree and Weeping Beeches as well as Elms,Oaks Pines and Wisteria.
Bluebell Wood and the Fairy walk are but two of the delightful attractions of this wonderful Australian Southern Highlands garden.
