At 875m and 775 metres respectively,Mount Gower and Mount Lidgbird on majestic Lord Howe Island are the imposing but miniscule remnants of an ancient shield volcanic caldera which last flowed with lava some 6.4 million years ago.
The Mountains support a variety of vegetation types progressing to cloud forest species at the top.
Access to Gower is only by guided walk and by by fit and active people only.Lidgbird while open to general walkers is not necessarily an easy walk and a high level of fitness and stability is essentail.Lidgbird can only be climbed as high as the Goat House where excellent views can be had to Balls Pyramid and all over the northern end of the island including the Admiralty Islands just offshore.
