A recent trip in April 2012 to the NSW Southern Highlands, up to Oberon and out to Hill End proved a bountiful one as far as autumn or fall colour photography. April's clear autumn weather with whispy cirrus clouds made for some nice landscapes - (it had been raining cats and dogs from Newcastle north and Sydney copped it in bucketloads a few days later).
Although perhaps a few days to a week early I felt there was a reasonably good range of colours with reds oranges and yellows among the greens while the trees were still holding their leaves.
My usual rule of thumb in the Southern Highlands and Mt Wilson is to try to visit in Autumn around the 18th April.
