From Argentina,Paraguay and Brazil,Chorisia Speciosa(Floss Silk Tree or Silk Floss Tree) is one of the best flowering large trees in the world.
Growing to 18m its trunk can be covered in large thorns which can be scraped off when young and which may fall off as the tree ages.There is supposedly a thornless variety known as Majestic Beauty.I was however sold this tree as Majestic Beauty but mine has thorns,so confirm before purchase.
The pink franjipani like flowers are very beautiful and when I have seen the tree in full flower in Argentina,Brazil and also in Sydney and Brisbane Botanic Gardens I can say with assurance it is one of the most beautiful flowering trees in the world.
I am told that older trees flower best.The tree is best suited to sub tropical regions where ready water is available but like a lot of trees flowers best with dry weather during flowering.
