http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_JacarandaThe Jacaranda in October,November in Australia is a most stiking tree in full bloom. It is a remarkably adaptable tree and can be found in most country towns around Australia as Jacarandas can tolerate quite dry conditions becoming briefly deciduous before exploding into flower.
Grafton has the title of the Jacaranda City though and it is true Jacarandas do love the river loam and the climate of this NSW inland north coast town.
Often seen flowering in early summer with Illawarra Flame Trees,Tabebuias,Cassias,Silky Oaks,Cape Chestnuts, and Paulownias,Jacarandas are surely one of the worlds great flowering trees.
"White Christmas" is a white flowering grafted variety and I will have photos as soon as my own tree begins to show its colours.
These images were shot on different days under different light conditions which accounts for the varied colour tones quite apart from the colour variation between trees.Grafted trees are now the preferred option due to better flowering and more intense blues/purples.
I have found it difficult to photograph Jacarandas due to the close contrast between the purple of the flowers and the sky.
