Satin Bower birds are regular visitors to our property and in particular love to feast on any ripening fruit in the orchard.They usually get to it just before it is ripe enough for us to pick,making netting essential to actually getting any fruit from our peach,nectarine,plum and apple trees. A feature of these birds is their on ground nest which is constructed carefully in the shape of a bower. These birds have an obsession with blue objects and will carry a blue peg,bottle top or anything else blue they can carry quite some distance just to position near their nest. The nest depicted in these photos is conveniently less than 10 metres from our fruit trees.
