Commemorative Wall Display - Last Qantas Flight of Douglas DC4-VH-EDA - Norfolk Trader, on February 27th 1977 to Norfolk Island

This photo wall display hangs in the airport on Norfolk Island and commemorates the last flight (QF436) to Norfolk Island of DC4-VH-EDA on February 27th 1977.br/br/The Norfolk Trader, as it became known, from it completion date in the USA in March 1945, and after previous international service with ANA as VH-ANF, was purchased by Qantas on February 18th 1959 (8,441 hours) and re-registered as VH-EDA. br/After some international service including the Malaysia run, VH-EDA was soon tasked to the Norfolk Island run and re-named the Norfolk Trader. br/The Norfolk Trader made its last flight to Norfolk Island on February 27th 1977 under Captain R Bishop having completed 55,120 hours and 9,807 landings to that point in its history. The plane was flown back to Sydney by Captain N.L Maguire on the same day.br/The plane, had a substantial continuing history of service to various owners and following its Norfolk period the plane left Australia for service in the USA and Canada in 1980 where it was eventually purchased by Calm Air International in Canada in November 1981 and re-registerd as C-GPFG. br/br/On the 16th June 1987 ,after 42 years of service,it crashed at Hidden Bay in Saskatchewan, Canada, killing 4 people.br/The plane was damaged beyond repair and was scrapped. I have not been able to determine how many hours/landings the plane had made prior to its unfortunate demise.br/br/a href="http://www.aussieairliners.org/dc-4/vh-anf/vhanf.html"; target="_blank"History of DC4- VH-ANF or as VH-EDA - Norfolk Trader/a
