<strong>Pacific madrona</strong>, <strong>madrone</strong> or <strong>Arbutus</strong> is a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Species" rel="nofollow">species</a> of tree in the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_(biology)" rel="nofollow">family</a> Ericaceae, native to the western coastal areas of North America, from <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Columbia" rel="nofollow">British Columbia</a> to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California" rel="nofollow">California</a>.
I came across these trees along the shores of Crescent Lake in Washington State, west coast USA in August 2012 and was struck by the similarity of the trunk and peeling bark to Lophostemon confertus - Brush Box from the east coast of Australia.
