Comboyne Plateau - Mural

This mural on the side of the general store in the rural Village of Comboyne depicts life on the the rich volcanic soils of the Comboyne Plateau.
The Plateau covers an area of 180 square km at altitude varying from 600 - 800 metres above sea level. Subtropical Rainforest was once widespread right across the Comboyne Plateau before logging and clearing for dairying almost wiped out every trace of rainforest.
Fortunately some areas of rainforest survived on the escarpment with the small but significant remnant - Boorganna Nature Reserve located not far from Comboyne.
The tall tree to the left of centre shows two axemen on platforms felling a mighty Eucalyptus grandis tree and a stump in the left corner symbolises the nature of industry which once existed here.
Today beef cattle, dairying, hobby farming and some agro forestry are the main rural activities on the plateau. Not far from Comboyne Village is a large Paulownia Plantation which adds colour to the plateau even if it represents an almost complete transformation of the natural landscape to that of one constructed by man's endeavour.
