The Comboyne Plateau covers an area of 180 square km at altitude varying from 600 - 800 metres above sea level. Subtropical Rainforest was once widespread right across the Comboyne Plateau before logging and clearing for dairying almost wiped out every trace of rainforest.
Fortunately some areas of rainforest survived on the escarpment with the small but significant remnant -
Boorganna Nature Reserve located not far from Comboyne.
Today beef cattle, dairying, hobby farming and some agro forestry are the main rural activities on the plateau. Not far from Comboyne Village is a large
Paulownia Plantation which adds colour to the plateau even if it represents an almost complete transformation of the natural landscape to that of one constructed by man's endeavour.
