This General Store and Post Office has served the Marlee community for many years. I am uncertain of its history but would be interested to receive any information.
Sometime presumably in 2011 the store closed, no doubt creating the need for locals to travel to Wingham for daily supplies.
The Marlee General Store is on the main road to one of the Manning Valleys most promoted tourist attractions at Ellenborough Falls which cascade from the Bulga Plateau. The very dangerous state of the road up to Elands has no doubt reduced passing trade and may well be a contributing reason for the closure of the shop.
Similar cafe enterprises at nearby Bobin in the past have also suffered as a result of the failure to upgrade this road to attract more tourists.
The present poorly maintained state of the road would appear to indicate that it may be increasingly irresponsible to recommend Ellenborough Falls and the Marlee to Comboyne loop as tourism destinations.
