Lepidozamia peroffskyana - Shining Burrawang, August 10th 2013

Lepidozamia peroffskyana - Shining Burrawang, August 10th 2013

Family : Zamiaceae

I have been photographing this plant now since January 2013 around which time the owner decided to remove all the frons when they began looking untidy, having been and burnt off following the long drought of August 2012 to January 2013.
The owner was concerned the plant would die after removal of the frons.
Lepidozamia plants are ancient and well adapted plants so of course the removal of the frons had no effect on the plant with a new male cone emerging throughout March 2013 and finally being displaced by newgrowth by July 2013. These Images taken on August 10th show the plant in a full flush of newgrowth. It has been interesting though that the length of time the plant has taken to resume to full adult leaves will be at least 12 months, assuming drought does not intervene again. I am not sure if the large number of basal shoots is a response by the plant to the effects of that late 2012 drought or to the entire removal of its frons.
