Cape Byron Lighthouse is on Australia's most easterly point [Latitude 028° 38.4' S. Longitude 153° 38.1' E] - situated near Byron Bay (NSW)above idyllic Wategos Beach. The Lighthouse is 18 metres high and is made from concrete blocks and was opened in 1901.

The lighthouse is a short walk from Wategos Beach around the headland(See Wategoes Beach to Cape Byron Lighthouse gallery) or can be reached by road from the Pass and Byron Bay.
The lighthouse, managed by National Parks has excellent views over the bay,Julian Rocks,Mount Warning and hinterland,Tallow Beach to Broken Head and to Byron township.
It has become an icon for Australia with thousands of tourists each year taking in the magnificent views.
It is also a great place to see the annual northerly whale migration to breeding grounds in warmer waters at Hervey Bay and other places further north which starts in June ending with the southerly return in October.
Details of tours of the lighthouse are displayed on Photo No.17

NOTE
I have photos of the lighthouse also in the SUNSETS group folder as well as in a few other galleries in the Byron Bay - NORTH COAST group.
