# Boxes were prepared into which equal quantities of brood comb wax would be added to each box. The hive had been existing inside a log which had originally fallen to the ground.
The log had been mounted vertically and the native bees had survived well for many years.
It was decided to split the log open and transfer the native bees to a number of hives. Initially 3 hives were anticipated but in the end to keep the split hives strong that only 2 would be used.
