This Mountain Air scenic flight ranks with the best flights we have taken anywhere in the world and is an absolute must do if you are in the Tongariro World Heritage National Park area in the centre of the North Island of New Zealand.
At the relatively cheap price of around $200 (2011) the 35 minute flight over stunning volcanic mountain scenery is well and truly worth every cent.
Mountain Air's expert pilots and commentary assure that a lasting memory will be had and if you are lucky, or clever enough, to organise a cloud free day your photos will tell the tale.
Scenic flights depart several times daily by appointment from the airfield across the road from Whakapapa turnoff, not far from National Park Village. (Oh, and no, I am not on their payroll, just very grateful for the amazing experience. Special thanks to Claire - our excellent female pilot.)
